Initial Storyboard

Image
This is the storyboard that was curated specifically for the opening scene my partners and I are working on. When we made it, we each had different visions so I went with this one that focused more on the productional qualities of the scene than the sketches. Michael did the scripting which allowed Ernest to have a clear vision on what to draw and I focused on detailing the audio, angle, description, camera shot, and transition.

What Inspires You?

As mentioned already, the genre I chose for my blog was a satirical mockumentary and my personal influences were, the news, “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” and “The Office . ” Starting off, the news in general is a great inspiration for this mockumentary as outlets such as True Crime Daily post news documentaries on harrowing cases and the cuts from news reporters that read accounts o n the situation to reenactments and actual clips from the scene are shown . Next, The Odd Life of Timothy Green isn’t a comedy nor is it a real documentary, but the format is really similar to a documentary. To start off, the movie begins with Jim and Cindy Green, a married couple with no children who are filling out a form for an adoption. When the adoption agency woman was going through the form notices that there’s nothing written in the “Qualification” area ; Jim and Cindy explain how there wasn’t enough space and convince the two workers to listen to their story of Timothy Green. The scene t...

Film Opening Brainstorm

So far, the brainstorming progress has been going well. One of my partners, Michael, is sick at home today, so this leaves Ernest and I to have more creative control. Our brainstorming progress was practically over a couple of days ago as Michael and Ernest agreed on the storyline, and I concentrated on putting it in script form. So far, Ernest and I were discussing different shots that we could use such as high and low angles. Ernest completed the logos when Michael was here and he's focusing on making his production company right now while I'm finishing up and refining the script. This will still be a work in progress since I need to make sure that we all agree and we’re on the same page when Michael returns, but I’m more worried about making the details on the camera shots and positioning of sound effects and music coherent enough for my teammates to follow.

Genre and Group Members

For the movie opening project that’s currently in the making, I chose Ernest and Michael (click their names to view their blogs) to be my partners. They are my choice because we all worked well together during the sound art project. This time our group will work on the movie opening project and the genre that we want to represent is a satirical mockumentary.

Storyboarding

Image
Storyboarding is the process used mostly in film to capture a specific scene in time and detail it with descriptions of what is going on along with the drawn piece in order to perfect what’s needed to bring a scene to life. What I learned about storyboarding in this lesson was the extensive process that was needed to detail the future scenes before a filmmaker goes out to get equipment and casts. Some storyboards with smaller boxes – like the one I made – are more reliant on texts while others that are larger ones are more focused on the art and add in additional details to the inside of the portrait. The storyboard gives the creator a sense of the mise en scène that needs to be addressed in the financial aspect and creative liberties. By mapping out the potential scenes that don’t get scrapped, they can focus on the costumes, – it could be medieval for a historical type of movie – lighting, – lowkey lighting for the scary moment of a horror film – and more. Understanding this concept ...

Mise En Scene Analysis - The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Image
The movie I chose for this assignment is The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. The Chronicles of Narnia is a fantastical trilogy series that follows the four Pevensie siblings, Peter and Edmund –sons of Adam – and Susan and Lucy – daughters of Eve – in Narnia as they journey to Aslan in order to save Edmund and later all of Narnia from the White Witch. The otherworldly nature of these movies is accompanied by the phenomenal mise-en-scène of costumes, lighting, sets, and props that enhances the overall experience of the new world and really defines the fantasy and adventure genre it’s set in. First off, the lighting. The movie starts out in a gloomy London that exudes the country’s unsafe state, causing the Pevensie siblings to move away. When they moved to the countryside to live with the professor, the colors on the outside were much brighter, symbolizing their safety but the inside of the mansion is dark, showing how even though they’re safe, it’s a rather ...
