Sample of Exam

The five-minute clip shown of Agent Carter starts off with a Dutch angle of Steve, signaling the audience to the uneasiness of the tense situation. After, Steve cuts off with a slight j-cut in the sound that jumps to Peggy who's clearly in denial of Steve's fate. The j-cut shows that Peggy is the only one left alive in this conversation. The screen fades and an edit appears on the screen to show that one year has passed. The fade shows how everything has changed as she moves from a control room to a police station and is used to not being called up for assignments but still has hope even though it's been three months since she's been there. Peggy now wears a blue outfit which signals her grief over losing her status and Steve. Although the blue is what everyone else wears, it obviously clashes with her personality as it doesn't sit right with her red hair and lipstick like the military's brown outfit did. The dirty single where Flynn touches Peggy's shoulder but his face is nowhere to be seen symbolizes the higher power that he has over her and is backed by her subtle flinching and backing away to show she's not okay with being pushed to the sidelines and not pursuing her passion of being in action. When Peggy looks down in her desk drawer and sees Steve, there's a sense of longing that shows she's accepted him but still misses him as she's absorbed in his photo through the static shot. After the lights are turned off, leaving Peggy alone, the lowkey lighting of blackness really shows the audience the loneliness and emptiness she feels at the job but due to her past job and resilience she continues as if nothing's draining her. There's a close up shot of Agent Flynn's telephone ringing and its importance was shown beforehand when everyone in the police station stood and intense music played in the background and a tracking shot of Flynn ensued. When the phone is first seen ringing there is barely any hint of red and it was bright outside but with Peggy in the short and the darkness, the red calls to her, matching the tint of her hair and lipstick, seemingly bringing back the passion she had especially with the touch of the blaring ring in the empty void. While Peggy answers the phone, there's a close up shot of her rushing to write down the notes and more life coming back to her, especially when she crosses out the amount of agents needed to tackle the Zodiac. As Peggy approaches the building from the coordinates, the lowkey lighting is dark with hints of blue, telling the audience how ruthless the job Peggy is about to do is, especially with the ominous music bringing concern as three to five agents were needed. Inside the building there are three men in a brightly lit room and normal music playing which tells the viewer how clueless these men are to Peggy's position. When the fight begins there are jump cuts to the moves Peggy does, showing the audience her precision and letting the viewer root for her even more and hate the fact that she's being undermined at work even more. The audience is further assured of her passion and expertise belonging outside the office and will continue to root for her breaking out of the cage her boss has kept her in. The audience knows that the cage is also set up by the time period as the office is filled with typewriters, old fashioned telephones, and because of the outfits worn.
